Item Engineering - Average Qty Issue

Posted on by 170

We have used the costing preference defaults window to mark the prorate setup time as average quantity, the rollup scope for selected item and treeview explosion level for entire bill of material, then we updated the average qty numbers on the item engineering data window. After we have a MO receipt on the item that has the average qty numbers, the average quantity numbers are updated to zero. We don't know why the average quantity field is updated and why is the MO receipt affecting the average quantity? Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Pei

I have a V90 setup on my workstation and it does not behave like you describe.

Std functionality is for average qty to be used for pro-rating setup costs and for automatically defaulting MO start qty when MO is created.

If your Item Engineering is being 'reset' (automatically without user intervention) to zero as you state........

It is either a 'bug' or customization to the system........

Perhaps this was done before you started using GP? If a window is modified in GP it will either start with a period or end with a period (window label top left corner).

If someone installed a SQL trigger - you would not know it until you actually looked for it in SQL.........

    I'm stumped.......

We don't have Maximum field populated for any items on the item resource planning and all mfg sites, Is it necessary to populate this field in order for the Average Qty in Item Eng to retain it's value? If it is, what other implications may there be from the populating the Maximum?

    Thanks,

    Pei

We are using GP9.0 and our system is set to 'Average Qty'.

    There is a setting under...........

Tools > Setup > Manufacturing > System Defaults > Costing

Verify that your system is set to 'Average Qty'

I would then check my item resource planning (default) and all mfg sites. Increase maximum by a value of 1 (example if average qty = 25 then put in 26.

Test the change - verify item Engineering Data average qty does not change.

Change back to 25 - retest - if average qty resets to '0' then I would say you have a 'bug'.......and i would recommend you report to MBS.

What version are you on? I will test my system......

    Thanks for your reply.

We don't modify this form and create any SQL trigger and we found if the Maximum numbers on the item resource planning maintenance window are the same as the Average qty numbers on the item engineering data, after a MO receipt, the average quantity numbers aren't updated back to 0, Why is the Maximum affecting the Average qty? What setting do we need to follow to let the setup costs of an item can be calculated by the average quantity of the item?

     Thanks in advance.

That is definitely not standard functionality.

Perhaps a previous GP user modifed either the form or created a SQL trigger.
