Business Central – Purchase Line Discount not appearing for all Vendors

Hi everyone,

I need a particular line discount to be automatically applied to Purchase Orders for a group of vendors.

The challenge is that the discount setup works when configured for an individual vendor, but we want to keep the same discount logic for all vendors without creating separate records for each one.

What would be the best approach in Business Central?

Would you recommend using Purchase Line Discounts, Vendor Price Lists, Item Discounts, or another configuration/customization?

Also, how do you normally handle this requirement when the same item discount should apply regardless of the vendor?

Looking forward to hearing how others have implemented this.

    The best practice would be to utilize Purchase Line Discounts. If you have a large volume of data, it can be imported via Configuration Packages, which should help avoid extensive customizations.

    Thanks

    Hello,

    If the same item line discount applies to every vendor, the cleanest standard approach is the new Purchase Price List functionality: create one purchase price list with Applies-to Type = All Vendors, set it to define the Discount, and add the relevant items/item discount groups and Line Discount %. Business Central will then consider that discount automatically when calculating the best purchase price/discount. However, if the requirement is only for a specific group of vendors, standard purchasing does not support Vendor Price Groups or Vendor Discount Groups (Microsoft explicitly documents this), so you either need vendor-specific price-list applicability/records or a small customization extending the pricing framework with a custom vendor-group price source. Invoice Discount Code can be shared by multiple vendors, but that applies to the document total and is therefore not the right solution for item-level line discounts.

    @YUN ZHU

    Thanks for the clarification. Using Purchase Line Discounts and importing the data through Configuration Packages sounds like a good approach, especially when there are a large number of records. I’ll consider this for the implementation.

    Unfortunately on the purchase side you do not have the same functionality as the customer side where you could have used a Customer Disc Group.

    If you want the discount to apply to all vendors, you can add a discount for the item(s) and assign to All Vendors.

    If you want the discount to apply to only certain vendors, this would need to be done per vendor.

    Kind Regards
