repopulate analysis cubes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

i have a scenario here. currently i have installed and configured the analysis cubes with TWO company. subsequently i created a new company called TEST. when i re-execute the analysis cubes wizard, to include TEST in the cubes, the TWO company's integration services get missing.

i tried it both way like click both TWO and TEST in analysis cubes wizard but end up either one will still be missing.

consequently, i remove all integration services packages, remove datawarehouse, and rerun the wizard with 2 companies selected, this time everything turns out fine.

however, we need to create and delete company from time to time. may i know what is the right steps i should followed when we have new company created in dynamics gp and need to repopulate the cubes?

thank you.

    RE: repopulate analysis cubes

Hi all, do you know where can I find any Documentation or KB or something from Microsoft regarding this GP 2010 installer bug?

I understand this is the bug number 8973....

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

This is actually a bug with the GP 2010 installer.  The behavior changed from the old 10.0 version (at which point you would re-run the installer and simply add the new company).

My "best practice" for adding a new company in light of this is as follows:

    - Add new records for the new company in LastUpdated table of the data warehouse.

    - Add new records for the new company in SystemVersion table of the data warehouse.

    - Copy an existing Master package into BIDs.  Change the Connection Manager string to point to the new GP database.  Change the gCompanyID variable to point to the new GP database.  Import the revised package into SQL and rename appropriately.

    - Add the new master package to the existing SQL Server Agent job.

Other steps may be required, such as adding records to tables for multi-currency, etc. but this should at least get you pretty close.  In some ways, this might be easier than using the installer tool to rebuild the packages and possibly wipe out customizations you may have.

    Re: repopulate analysis cubes

I am having a very similar problem - we have several clients who have multiple GP companies, and we need some way of including newly added GP companies in an existing data warehouse without having to remove all GP SSIS objects, and then re-run the wizard.

Are there any 'best practices' that are in wide use?

    Thanks!

    Jason
