We are on Dynamics GP 2010. Inventory Assembly Transactions take long time to post and they also take a long time to allocate.
This is not normal - this has been happening for the past month or so. There are no customizations. What can I do to check and improve this performance.
Thank you
Jack

It sounds like you are hitting a large number of transactions with a large history. Reconcile and Assembly transactions hit a large number of tables.
Here is what to check:
1. Disk space on the server. You should never let the server get below 25% free space
2. Make sure you have enough resources on the workstation (disk and RAM)
3. Examine the size of the tables for inventory history. If you have not purged data in the past few years, you might consider doing this to recover disk space.
4. You might need to reindex the tables. There are SQL procedures for this as well as processes in Maintenance of GP...BACKUP FIRST!!!
For some items, reconcile takes a long time too. It happens for most items, especially old ones that have a lot of transactions on them.

Does it happen with all the users even "sa", all workstations, all items ?
Can you think of any specific pattern when applied a slow posting occurs ? If not, you could run SQL profiler on the assembly posting process in order to figure out where the posting process hangs up.
Your feedback is highly appreciated.
Hello,
It does not happen with all inventory transactions. It just happens with Assembly Transactions. Our costing method is standard costing.
We do reconcile on regular basis. Let me know what else we can do. Thank you
Jack
Do you run reconcile on your inventory records regularly?
Does this happen with other inventory transactions, Inventory adjustment and transfer ? What is the valuation method, is it average costing ?
