Slow Posting

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello:

I have read the KnowledgeBase article on "experiencing slow performance when performing specific processes" in GP.

We're on GP2013 R2 (12.00.1920).  For the second month in a row, one of our end users who accesses GP through a Remote Desktop Services .rdp file has experienced slow posting at the end of the month.

I'm thinking about having IT delete and recreate her Terminal Services profile or adding more RAM perhaps to the Terminal Server.

Other than these two items and those mentioned in the Knowledge article, is there anything else that we can do to make sure that we proactively prevent slow posting from occurring next month?

Thank you!

John

    RE: Slow Posting

    Hi John,

Before deleting and recreating that user profile on the TS / RDP server, I'd try to run a SQL trace in the back-end on the GP server to check what's going on while she is doing a posting .. Do other users experience the same slowness when posting ?

How many users are accessing your TS system and how is it sized (CPU & RAM)... ?  our Windows 2012 RDP server is sized for approximately 25 concurrent users (if I recall correctly) and has 2 virtual CPUs and 10Gb of RAM. The system rarely runs at full power and serves on average 12-15 users. Except some mornings where users are experiencing a delay to start GP off the RDP server (which I suspect is a virtual resource allocation issue, not a server sizing issue), I've never see one users having been slow down more than another when running off the same system around the same time, even when accessing from different location..

However, the speed of the network connection between the end-user's computer and the RDP server can be have a slow refresh effect of the screen (even sometime a 'freezing' of the display). If your RDP server is connected closely to the GP back-end system, the network speed should be optimal and not suffer from any delays in the processing.
