Item Setup

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have an item that is manufactured and can be sold as each and in case form. This item is lot tracked as well. I would prefer to see it as cases in inventory, but cant find a way to do that without making it unable to sell as an each. When sold as each we open a case in inventory and pull what is necessary to fulfill the order.

It would be great if the inventory UOM and Manufacturing BOM were in cases(12each), but that it could also be sold as each.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks,

jeff

For the first question, yes you can see your inventory in both UOMs, each and case. This doesn't include all inventory reports, for instance, the item stock inquiry provides you with the ability to change  the unit of measurement with which you want to see the transaction and associated balance (Inventory > Inquiry > Item Stock). See the option of "Display unit of measurement"

For the second part, the manufacturing bill of materials considers the base as the default, although, i was wondering if it is possible to leave the "each" as the base, and change the bill of material quantity to 12, would this be fine ?

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

I think I need to clarify. I would like to see on my inventory card the quantity in cases, not each. If I setup the item with a base UOM of each, how can it show in cases?

The other part is i would like the BOM to be in cases. Is that possible when the item base UOM is each?

Thanks for the mention BABU BASKARAN

Allow me to elaborate a little bit more on this question, an item can be assigned to a specific unit of measure schedule in which I assume you will have to include the following:

Unit of Measurement Schedule: Case12 (referring to a Case with 12 each within)

    Base unit of measurement: Each

    Conversion : 1 case = 12 each

I am quite sure that you already have an overall idea about the unit of measurement schedule. What I would like to add up is that you can definitely sell, buy and see this item stock and transactions in all the unit of measurement schedule levels (Case and Each).

For purchasing, you can restrict purchasing the item in a specific level which reflects your specific requirement, this can be done from the item purchasing option window (Cards> Inventory > Item Purchasing Options)

As for the sales, you can not restrict, but you may specify a selling unit of measurement from the price list window.

All in all, your bill of materials, and configuration will control how the item is purchased, manufactured, sold and most importantly reported.
Please never hesitate to share any further inquiries,

    Hi Jeff,

The item can have one unit of measurement and multiple unit of measurement schedule.  This has been very well explained by our community friend Mahmoud.  Please click here to see the same.
