Hi,

I'm not sure I said it correctly, but the scenario is like this : I have a VM for development which connect to D365 F&O in another VM. The AxDB is on the VM's local drive.

Question is, in my SSMS, can I connect to AXDB of that D365 F&O in another VM ?

Because it is so tedious, that if I want to check the raw data of AxDB, I need to connect to the F&O's VM, so I want to do it from mine. Both of my development VM and F&O VM are LCS cloud hosted, btw.

What is the tier of "another VM" / "F&O VM"?

Yes, you can do it.

The target server's firewalls and SQL Server settings need to be configured to allow access from outside the VM. You can search SQL Server documentation to find instructions for enabling access.

Once that's done, you can use SQL Server Management studio on the other VM to verify that you can connect to the external database.

Finally, please check this doc to see what settings in web.config you need to modify in the VM that is connecting to the external db: docs.microsoft.com/.../dbmovement-scenario-debugdiag

Thanks, Is "Configuring SQL Server to allow remote connection", is the right keyword for me to search ?

My guess the webconfig stuff, I don't need it, if I only want to querying, right ? Yes, to be more clear on my intention is, from my Development VM, I want to query my UAT AxDB. My Visual studio will still intact to my own local AxDB.

Yes, "Configuring SQL Server to allow remote connection" is the correct topic to search for.

If you only want to query via SSMS, then you don't need to edit web.config and then your question has nothing D365 specific. It's a pure SQL Server question.

Please be careful with this sort of thing. Exposing your SQL to the entire internet is just not a great idea. At least try to only allow connections from the VM in question.
