Proper procedure to upgrade from 9.0 to 2010 SP1?

Posted on by 2,469

I know it's not out yet, but I wanted to verify the proper procedure to upgrade from GP 9.0 to GP 2010 SP1.

Do I need to install the 2010 RTM, run the upgrade against the database, then install SP1 and upgrade the databases again, or can I install the RTM, then the service pack, then run the database upgrades once?

Yes, you will need to run GP Utility again whenever you install SP. If not, when you run GP, it will prompt you about the database is not the same version.

For example, if your GP 2010 is version 11.0.0000. when you have install SP1 then the version number will be changed. eg. 11.0.1234

So, I only need to run GP Utilities once, after I have SP1 installed?

I'm not sure what your last sentence means - can you explain?

Please make sure your GP 9 is at the minimum service pack level before performing the upgrade to GP 2010

    For more information see, http://www.jivtesh.com/2010/05/upgrade-path-to-gp-2010.html

Assuming your have SP1 for GP 2010, you can install SP1 right after installing GP 2010. Then run the GP utility to do the database upgrade.

Note, for everything installation of Service Pack, you must perform database upgrade again.
