I run into this error when I try adding a new item. I also can't add item from excel which I tried as an alternative
You cannot change the Type field on Item 1182 because at least one Item Ledger Entry exists for this item
Turns out I already had the item no as the last used item so it was trying to create an already existing item which it treated as editing the existing item.The solution was to update the last used item no in no series
