NAV 2013 R2 Performance on SQL Server 2012

Posted on by 1,112

Dear Sir,

The SQL Server is running on a well o:) configured Server. The Server Configuration is given below.

1. OS - Windows Server 2012 R2
2. RAM - DDR3 24 GB ECC
3. RAID 10

The NAV SERVER is also installed in the same server. Almost 112 concurrent End-users are accessing the NAVISION Database thru different clients system.

I have noticed that in a particular time( 5PM/6PM) the SQL as well as the NAV SERVER are consuming the whole (20GB+) RAM of the Server everybody & makes the Server unstable.

So, please let me know how to solve this issue.

Thanks in adv.

SQL does not give back the RAM that it had consumed. Overall, 24 Gb for 112 concurrent users looks too low for me, I'd recommend 64 for stable performance. RAM costs basically nothing nowadays.

Also, there might be some other software scheduling the service, e.g. - malware protection running or some side backup of the whole system, not related to SQL or NAV as such. Users might start some software - e.g. in the end of the working day they want to run some entertainment prog that eats up the memory.

    Hi,

I'm sure you have check the performance graphs on windows.

If you have and you identify that it is SQL and NAV using almost all the Ram, then ask users to exit from NAV and stop the NAV service and check how the performance work.

If the SQL Ram utilization still does not get drop then it might be due to some SQL issue. If the SQL ram drop immediately after you stop the NAV service then it is related to NAV. By doing that you can isolate the problem.

If it is related to NAV, check on any schedule report or any background posting, or cost adjustment batch job.

No heavy activities are running during that time. This kind of things already checked before posting into this forum.

Check for any scheduled activities on the server such as backup or any batch report scheduled during that time

As well as check transactions posting during this period.
