Auto Generate Next Asset ID during Integration with IM

We would like to run an integration into fixed assets. The options for the asset id field are only use constant, use source field, Input or Script. I would think we would need a use default or something like that in IM so that we don't have to manually include the asset id in our source file. That defeats the purpose of having the system auto generate if we have to make sure know one is in FA while we import these and then have to go manipulate the next starting number when we are finished with the import. What am I missing here?
