Item History Windows Causes High Server CPU Load

Posted on by 5,985

Hi All,

A colleague of mine was just viewing the item history (Inquiry--Inventory--Item Transaction) when their GP client became unresponsive. They mentioned the slowness to me and when I pulled up the resource usage for the SQL server I noticed that the CPU was pegged at 100%. Has anyone one else come across this before? I am pretty sure the answer is to just use another reporting method but I was curious if this behavior is pretty common when you are viewing items with a ton of history.

The client remained responsive and the server load stable right up until we tabbed out of the the end date restriction field at which point the client froze up and CPU usage on the server spiked. The date range we used was about a week. As background the item we were looking at is a catalog that is tracked as a line item for almost every sales transaction we process in GP. I can't recall offhand but I believe we have about 6 years of historical data in the company database.

Thanks,

Kirk

I have done an enhancement as related to the item stock movement report, which can be found on Item Stock Movement Report , the performance issues and a comparison of different performance were discussed on another post When Writing an SQL Query, Performance Really Matters.

In this essence, you might be interested in deploying this report considering the SQL script on the first link, and then check your SQL Server performance accordingly.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Sounds pretty normal to me Kirk. The same thing happens when running the purchase receipts report or inventory historical balance or any historical balance when there is a ton of data. I tell our clients to run these reports either at lunchtime or at the end of the day.
