another blast from the past question - Frx 6.7 SP 11

Posted on by 2,046

hi folks

another blast from the past question - please no replies to upgrade to MR

Frx 6.7 SP11

A reporting tree was 230 ish rows long.  More companies were acquired now it is 374 rows long.

Previously able to export the resulting financial statement to excel with one tab for each unit on the tree, including export formulas.

Now exporting formulas the excel file is not even created if you export the whole tree.

If you export portions of the tree you get a file.

If you turn off export formulas you can export the whole tree.

Suggestions as to how to export the whole tree and formulas?

Suggestions that this may be a known bug that is not going to be corrected? (I have read all the posts about spaces in file name and file path - that was supposedly fixed in SP10, but just in case I have taken spaces out of the file name.)

thanks!

I was first attempted to think that this was a limitation of the numbers of tabs you can have in Excel (which I thought was 255), but it turns out that this is only limited by the amount of memory you have available.. .Some interesting facts about Excel : office.microsoft.com/.../excel-specifications-and-limits-HP005199291.aspx

with 374 rows on the tree one by one is not really practical.  I randomly chose different rows on the tree to export and it was fine.  Finally I ran the report to the frx viewer and from inside the viewer was able to export to excel with the formula.  The result was slightly different than the direct to excel export in that the viewer hid the rows, and the direct to excel summarized the rows.  That is acceptable.  All the tabs are the same shape so the user can select all the tabs and summarize manually.

    thanks for the suggestions folks.

Perhaps you could isolate the problem to a particular unit by running 1 unit in the tree at a time.  Then continue to add units until the problem appears.

A long time since I used it - does the formula export create additional tabs?  I wonder if this could be more of an Excel issue - too many tabs in the workbook?  Just clutching at straws really!

no worries Jonathan.  This particular customer has a third party that they are in love with that has not updated so they cannot upgrade.  Of course the recommendation is the move off Frx and onto MR, but sadly these people cannot.

I do not know MR but I have seen a few posts where you are asking not for responses about upgrading. Please note that if someone from Microsoft reads these type of posts we are inclined to recommend upgrading. While it may not be the resolution you are looking for please understand that we need to do this due to products no longer being supported.
