DB Update Synchronize All Ownership & Security Becomes Unresponsive

Hello, wonderful Dynamics SL Forum!

Last night, we moved the database from SQL 2005 on Win 2003 SP2, to SQL 2008 R2 on Server 2008 R2. We followed the instructions in KB Article ID: 846350, and we are at the point where we want to Syncronize All Ownership and Security in the Database Update process, however the db update application freezes and becomes unresponsive.

As a result, we can read data in SL but not post new data.

Has anyone dealt with this or have handy scripts to execute this same synchronization on the SQL server?

One thing that might contribute to this problem is if you have any databases that are "off-line" on the server. I think they corrected this problem in a service pack or version but it definitely existed at one time so it might be worth checking on this.

Note that they don't have to be Dynamics SL databases specifically to cause a problem.

It might be helpful for you to know that this process actually gets the list of ALL databases on a given server. It then cycles through that list checking the tables and things to see if the database appears to be a Dynamics SL database or not. The significance of this fact is that, a server with LOTS of databases could cause the process to appear to hang.

Also note that SQL Profiler can be an invaluable tool to debug a problem like this. If you fire that up and watch what's happening when you run the process there's a good chance you'll get much more insight into what's happening (or not happening as the case may be).
