Is it possible to show the counter on the dashboard instead of a chart? I want to show the number of leads as a number and I would like to be able to change the period (day, week, month etc.)

Definitely possible, however you have a do a bit of chart customizations.

once implemented, you can show just the key stats (as seen below). In your case, you just need to show the number of leads.
