Getting Error stating, "File I/O Failure 602: An I/O failure was detected on the EDC answer file.

Posted on by 190

A couple of the stores I support are getting this error intermittently when running Credit Cards. I have tried swapping out the Mag Swipes as well as swapping out the register computers. I have spent a few good hours trying to research this to no resolve. Is there anyone that has seen this error before and can better aid me in where to look to resolve this?

Hi - I've seen this happen with multiple RMS users and TSYS over the last year - in those cases, TSYS had turned off their processing as using RMS EDC and Mag Stripe Readers is no longer supported by TSYS (or Heartland, First Data, etc). Resolution was to put in stand alone payment terminals that do not connect to the POS system or a 3rd party plug in like Card Defender or Retail Realm.

Did this ever get resolved?  We are having the same issue.

I have the same error. Running RMS 2.0.0116. It happens when running multiple credit card transactions back to back. same card, 1st transaction tender passes, 2nd one fails with 602 error.  if I wait 3 - 5 minutes for the 2nd transaction everything works fine. when the transaction fails a null record is placed in the visanetauthorization file -- any help would be appreciated.

Subsequent new installations experience the same exact issue with the same Windows build and system image.

Have you tried replacing a problem station WITHOUT using that system image?
Are you running any security software that monitors IP communications?

Are the POS lanes setup exactly the same other than assigning a different register number in Administrator?

This is Patricia and I work with both Russ and Chad.  We are running on Windows 7.  Issue presents itself with all card types and appears to be a communication issue of some sort during the authorization process.

What version of windows are you running?

Make sure that the time, date and time zone are correct on the POS.

Run a chkdsk on the local drive.

I'm a coworker of creynolds911 and to answer the most recent questions, we do not use a middleware for EDC processing as suggested.

We setup our EDC processing as follows:

In Store Operations Administrator, click Configuration on the File menu, and then click the EDC tab. In the EDC software box, select Preferred Acquirer Credit/Debit Card Processing, and then click Advanced Options and add TSYS Visanet VAR sheet merchant account particulars.

    We process using the following:

    • TSYS Network via: ssl1.tsysacquiring.net/scripts/gateway.dll?transact
    • RMS 2.0.0155

Cards will process, and then simply start failing and not start to work again. We can process at another register successfully with the same credit card running off of the same RMS DB without error. Subsequent new installations experience the same exact issue with the same Windows build and system image.

Can a register and its configuration in the RMS DB become corrupt?

"answer file" sounds like IC Verify or PC Charge is being used in background.

What option is selected under Store Operations Administrator, File, Configuration, EDC tab, EDC software?

What version of RMS is installed?

I am not aware of any middleware that we use. When the store employees run credit cards it is through the RMS POS program.
