Close Income Statement batch job

I am running this task and the end result is a journal that reverses all general ledger transactions (not as a single balance - but reverses each transaction)  - can anyone advise what I need to do to sort this?

On the batch job you have the option to select Balance/Details - this controls what is posted to retained earnings.

The journal shouldn't be reversing every transaction in the Income Statement account individually.  You may see multiple postings per G/L Account if you have elected to close by dimension, and you will then have a journal line for every combination of dimension values.

    Kind Regards

Hi Dave, I assume you mean the Close Income Statement job. Look at the Dimensions field on the request page, and Business Unit Code as well. If you tick dimensions there, the batch creates one line for every dimension value combination it finds on each account, so with a couple of dimensions in play it explodes and it looks like it is reversing entry by entry. Leave both empty and you get a single line per G/L account, which is what you are after.

Delete the lines sitting in the journal now and run it again clean, don't try to tidy them by hand.

Closing by dimension only makes sense if you actually need the closing entry itself split that way.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

That is strange, I would refer to your partner so that they can raise the issue with Microsoft

That's certainly quite abnormal to see that many entries for the income statement close. Any business units being used or customizations? If you run it with settings like in my screenshot below you should only see minimal activity:

I would also test in a Sandbox if possible. If you can replicate it that's great because then the next step would be to open a ticket with Microsoft ASAP. Your partner can help with that. They will be able to look to see if it's a bug and can often provide a quick hotfix.

Hi Dave, assuming this is the Close Income Statement job, check the Dimensions field on the request page, and Business Unit Code too. Tick dimensions there and the batch produces a line for every dimension value combination it finds on each account, so with two or three dimensions in use it explodes and reads like it is reversing entry by entry. Leave both blank and you get one line per G/L account.

Clear out what is sitting in the journal now and run it again clean, patching those lines by hand will only cost you more time.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

    Hi,
This is an error in version 28.3 where changes has been made to Closing Income Statement (SourceCurrency 638 808) System is closing every single GL entry and after posting, if you repeatedly run the batch, you will have the total of the entries from every financial account, posting one line debit and one line credit, ready to post in the journal again.
We will have to wait for a hotfix on this.
