GP 2013 Client Running on Windows Server 2003

Posted on by 125

Hi All,

We are currently running our GP 10 (10.00.1757) server on Windows 2008 and SQL server 2008 R2. We are planning to upgrade GP 2013 (only application server with hot fix 10.00.1779 and not database server), so the OS and SQL remains the same (windows 2008 and SQL server 2008 R2). I am sure its supported and see the same in blogs and documents.

Question is related to the client, at present our business users connect GP through terminal box which is running on Windows Server 2003. I am seeing in forums that GP 2013 is not supported with Windows server 2003, I belive that would be for the Server and in our case its the client machine. Since the DB server is running on Win Server 2008 and we only want to make sure if client can still run GP 2013 on 2003 box with out any problem?

Had some one run into same issue or suggest if this would be possible?
Please let me know your response at the earliest.

thanks!

I have passed by this post on a few occasions, and have not commented, despite having a strong opinion based on experience.  Periodically, I receive referrals involving companies who have "painted themselves into a corner."

The situation is always a variation on the following theme.  They are using an unsupported version of Dynamics GP or SL and something terrible has gone wrong.  They desperately need assistance to get back up and running right NOW!  Microsoft Tech Support cannot and will not help them because they are not on a supported configuration.

I don't think there is a solid business case for building your business system on a foundation of sand.  Do yourself a favor and upgrade the server to a supported version, or acquire a new server, if you have another system which requires Windows 2003.

If you try to install Web Client on a machine that is before 2008 R2 you will get an error stating you need to be on 2008 R2 or later. So if you want to use Web Client you will need to upgrade the server to 2008 R2 or later.

Normally while installing GP, we must go through System requirements guide and make sure it meets the current version of GP.

for your case Desktop GP works.  But you cant use web client in that server. since it needs minimum of Win 2008 R2 server.

Also you can feel the difference between the current server installation from the actual server installation.
