Incorrect Material Issued to Production

Hi All,

The user has issued incorrect material to production from the warehouse pick and wants to return it and re-issue the correct lot to production.

What is the official/recommended way of handling this?

If the material is returned from the movement worksheet, it does not remain linked to the production order. Because of this, the user is unable to issue the new material and cannot see what is currently linked to the production bin for this production order.

Could you please advise on the correct process for returning the incorrectly issued material and re-issuing the correct lot to the production order?

You can use the same journal, whether it be the Consumption Journal or the Production Journal, and make the entry as a reverse entry with a negative Quantity.

Has the incorrect material already been posted as consumption against the Production Order? As Alex mentioned, the only option is to try the reverse process.

    Hello Vikas,

If the Warehouse Pick has only been registered and the wrong lot has not yet been consumed, what you are seeing is standard behavior: registering the pick updates Qty. Picked on the Production Order Component, but moving the material back with Movement Worksheet → Get Bin Content is only a physical warehouse movement and therefore does not undo the registered pick or restore its production-order linkage. Microsoft specifically recommends the Movement Worksheet for returning excess production material, and the supported way to pick additional material is the Allow Whse. Overpick option on the Item Card; enable it, pick the required quantity again using the correct lot, register that warehouse pick, return the incorrect lot from the To-Production bin through the Movement Worksheet, and then post consumption using only the correct lot/item tracking. There is currently no standard Undo Registered Production Warehouse Pick function that resets Qty. Picked back to the source document. If the wrong lot was already consumed, it must first be corrected as a production consumption transaction; note that Microsoft’s Reverse Production Order Transaction action specifically does not support consumption involving warehouse handling, so that scenario needs separate correction rather than simply moving the inventory.

@OussamaSabbouh Thank you for your reply and brief explanation.

The issue is that the user wants to see the live inventory in the To-Prod bin for the selected production order. Do you have any idea how we can achieve this, even though the materials are returned through the movement worksheet?

Hi,  BC doesn't really give you a  undo of a registered pick. The movement worksheet moves the stock physically, but it doesn't touch Qty. Picked on the prod. order component line, so the order still believes the wrong lot is picked and sitting in the to-production bin. That is the link you are missing.

If consumption was already posted for the wrong lot, reverse that first — negative quantity in the consumption journal with the same lot. It comes back to the to-production bin, then you move it out with the movement worksheet.

For the correct lot the  is that Qty. Picked is cumulative, so a fresh pick for the same expected quantity won't be created. What you can do  is add a separate component line for the correct item tracking, or raise the expected qty, and pick against that.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
