I just got a request from our CFO who would like to see the buildup of the FIFO layers. I thought there was a way that would allow us to see that, but I can't find it.

Run a Purchase Receipts report. It is, in effect, your FIFO layers report. Inventory>>Reports>>Activity>>Purchase Receipts.
