Issue installing Business Central 28.0 (404 error) File or directory not found.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking into installing Business Central version 28 (2026 release wave 1) and I tried to access the official Microsoft documentation here:

However, I initially encountered a 404 – File or directory not found error.

I’d like to ask:


  • Has anyone else experienced this issue when accessing the documentation for version 28?

  • Is there an updated or alternative link for installation guidance (especially for on-prem)?

  • Are the installation packages or docs not yet fully available for version 28?

  •  

From what I understand, version 28 is part of the 2026 release wave 1 and may still be in preview or rolling out , so I’m wondering if that could be the reason.

Any clarification or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    V28 looks to be delayed till a further date. As the directions North America conference is soon i'd expect it to be available around then or just after directions.

    Hello,
    Yes, others have hit this, and the main reason is that v28 docs/pages were still being published or adjusted during rollout; the official What’s New page for Business Central 28 is now live, and Microsoft also already has on-prem upgrade/install guidance for v28, but there’s one important catch: on the official v28 update page Microsoft says on-prem download packages are temporarily suspended because of a known SMTP attachment issue, so if you saw a 404 earlier it was likely a timing/publishing problem rather than a bad link; in other words, the documentation is now appearing, but package availability and some rollout pieces are still catching up, especially for on-prem.

    as per requirement due to some reasons Microsoft Postponing the V28.0 update .

    along with this some of error , bugs are found which is also provided by other community members . please wait till next notice .
