Add Bin to Suggested Purchase Order Report

Posted on by 1,540

Our warehouse uses a specific bin for special order items, and they want to see items for this bin on the PO Generator report before creating the PO's.

We tried to add Bin Number to the report by adding the Item/Site table and also tried adding the Item Site/Bin table to the report.

I even added a Bin Section. We also played around with relationships and restrictions.

The Bin Number just won't print on the report.

Permissions are fine because I added a label to the report that says "test test test" and that prints.

Any suggestions?

Regarding you question related to temp table, since non of the tables have bin field so it doesn't make any difference if its a temp table or the other one. With dexterity code field can be add easily on report.

Thank-you for the answer.   I'll check GPPT - the only question would be the SQL table in this report is a temp table.

In the meantime I created a Smartlist for the user to view items in this bin and the Order Policy in case they want to change it so that it doesn't use PO Gen.

    Hi Barb,

I don’t think you’ll be able to add the bin to this report in out of the box GP. There is a one-to-many relationship between the item master and the item/site bin quantities master table. As such, more than one bin may be returned when this report is printed and there’s not a good way to do that on this report.

We tested this report internally and came up with the same results you’re getting – it just doesn’t show up.

I suspect you’d need a customization of some kind to get this to work. If you’re savvy in Dexterity and/or you use GP Power Tools you may be able to write a RW function that will return the value you’re looking for. Dave Musgrave has a good blog about this:

The logic here can be used for any report.

Others in the community may have ideas as well. Good luck!
