Hi Guys,

I have created a new trial for Dynamics 365 for financials and in the assisted setup i see the following options:

Dynamics-365-Assisted-Setup.png

However, in the tutorials i see there are more options.e..g, in this article:

https://community.dynamics.com/business/b/dynamics365businesscloudfronts/archive/2016/12/27/setting-up-company-using-assisted-setup

there are more options listed. I am interested to know how we can enable the other options, I am especially interested in the Dynamics CRM Connection option.?

I also have a second question here, when i complete the reporting setup form the above list I am provided an odata url but when I click on this url it asks for username and password and after that nothing happens, I don't see any data in the browser. What could be the reason?

P.S.Please note I am talking about Financials and not about NAV.

Thanks

Nauman

RE: Assisted Setup Options for Dynamics 365 for Business

    Hello Nauman,

Regarding the first question about assisted setup:  In order to see all assisted setup options your Company's Experience will need to be set to Suite.  To set this follow these steps:

    1. Using the search icon (piece of paper with a light bulb in the upper right) type in Company Information.

    2. Click to open the Company Information window.

    3. At the bottom you should see User Experience, click to expand if needed and change the Experience from Basic to Suite, you will need to log out and log back in.

Regarding the question about Reporting Setup:

    1. Make sure the User Name being entered is the User Name from the User Card and the Password being entered is the Web Service Access Key on the same User Card.

    2. Did you create a new data set? If so, what Data Source Type and Data Source ID did you use?  I did a Query Data Source Type and chose My Customers(9150) Data Source ID and after entering in my user name and password my URL displays my Customers and their profits.

    Regards,

    Jennifer Reinhardt

    Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your response. My first issue has been resolved after your answer, now I can see all the setups.

For the second question I have created a web service access key and noted the username but now I am not getting any prompt for username/password.  I have tried services from the web services section as well my custom web service through the assisted setup for reporting. What could be the reason?

    Thanks
    Nauman

I used the page data source with Data Source ID: 22 and Data Source Name:Customer List.

    Hello Nauman,

If it's not prompting you for credentials anymore it's probably because it cached the first set of credentials you tried to use.  You can try an In-Private browser if you want.

You can navigate to the 'Web Services' page to see the objects you've exposed and their relative OData V4, OData and SOAP url's.  Opening these in a browser is ok to test to verify it's working, but it isn't going to give you a readable report.

You can open Excel and go to the Data tab.  Select Get Data > From Other Sources > From OData Feed.  Plug in the OData V4 URL and then select BASIC authentication and use the UserName and Web Service key to connect.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hello,

You may need to use the OData URL (not the V4 version).

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Thanks Chris, this works.

BTW when should we use v4 and when odata version.

I typically default to the V4 option for everything... I'm not actually sure why it wasn't working for this page.  There are some others that it doesn't seem to be working for either.  I don't have a good answer for this other than trial and error... use the one that works.
