State Code in Customer Maintenance

We are on Dynamics SL v7.0 and in our Customer Maintenance and Ship-To tables we plan to restrict the ability for the end-user to enter in new state/province codes. We plan to setup all possible state/province codes for the US, Mexico, and Canada for the end-user to choose from when setting up a new customer or ship-to address.

Our issue is when a ship-to address is outside US, Mexico, or Canada, we would like to have a generic identifier that the end-user would select so we don't have to setup a province in every possible country that we may ship product to. We've talked about using a 99 or EX in the state table to identify exports outside of US, Mexico, and Canada, but are concerned about what will print on the shipping documents.

Has anyone else had this issue and what solution have you come up with?

I haven't addressed that particular issue, but it could be handled by replacing that print field on the report with a formula in Crystal. Look at the handling of printing the country description field on the default shipper form for an example. In your case, you would substitute "" for printing the values of 99 or EX where those are used. You would need to use a formula for this field on all reports where you may want to suppress that code.
