Smartlist displays “1” even though information field is populated.

Posted on by 175
I built my smartlist query using Smartlist Builder by connecting 3 tables. In individual smartlists (1 table – 1 smartlist), displayed information is “spelled out” correctly. However, when the 3 tables are added together, some of the fields display numeric "1" rather than the “spelled out” information, e.g. (instead of "internet address", it displays "1"). These fields are not index/account type (like GL account).

I’ve tried un-checking and then checking the problem fields in Smartlist Builder as well as creating the smartlist from scratch to no avail. Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks in advance! D

    Richard:

Thank you for your response. I ended up creating a brand new query that contains exactly the same tables, joints etc. and it works! The old query I was trying to add on was created when we had GP9.0 so I guess it could be some incompatibility!?

By the way, I too thought that a restriction by type (for the internet address information=VEN) will be required but as long as the internet company table is joined by left outer with the right keys, it pulls everything. If the restriction is there, it only pulls the “primary” vendor ID information that has the internet address as an option. I guess it depends what you are shooting for with the Smartlist.

    Thanks again! D

Most probably you are not pulling the correct records and getting records you do not need.  The internet information table contains records for customers, vendors, employees, inventory items, etc.  When you link your primary table to the InterNet Information table you need to use a where clause to limit the records returned to only those that apply.  You could, for example have an employee #1, a customer #1, and/or a vendor #1 and each would have a record in the Internet Information table.  There is a field in that table for record type.  Note, customers and vendors are tied to the customer number plus address ID or the vendor number and address ID.  Not eliminating these extra records would give you incorrect data like you are finding.

Unless you want to drop master records that do not have a record in the Internet Information Table, you also need to use a Left Outer Join when combining tables.

You can get a lot of assistance in this area in our book Customizing GP with The Builders which includes SmartList Builder, Excel Report Builder, and Navigation List Builder.

    Hi Denitsa,

Were you able to resolve this?

Is the SLB report in question set-up for summary/grouping?
