Could you please tell me why only 20 characters can be entered on the serial number field of the item serial number entry window? but IV10002 and IV30400 can accept 21 characters serial numbers.

The extra character is used for a terminator character. Some languages require a terminator character in the db to separate fields. Use ONLY the 20 characters
