New Server Profiles - MS Window asking for 'Dictionary/Dexterity Preferences

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

IT personnel had to join file server, on which GP resides, to a new domain. 3 workstation reconnected properly but 2 had a MS window come up which I had never seen. We did not screen shot it or remember exactly what it said but it was close to Dictionary/Dexterity Preferance with fill in box and only drop down choice was Windows. Once that was selected then GP wanted to run Utilities. At that point we stopped doing anything because I was pretty sure I did not want to run Utilities. Does anyone have any clue what is happening? I have been using GP for many years and have never seen that initial fill in box before.Thank you in advance for any assistance..

Thanks for verification of this. I am CPA not a technical person so over the years picked up enough to be dangerous. But will keep this and pass on to IT guys for future reference although god forbid we ever have problem again - we lost 2 disks of our RAID 5 Array along with 3 backups only partially working. After 3 months and 2 firms we did get a partial restore and by some miracle most important file, SQL back from night before UNK failure was recovered. But still dealing with aftermath has been nightmare. Have a great weekend. txs mll

For other users that run into the same issue - rare as it is - the issue here is that even though the passwords used for the ODBC connection do not change, the security for the location of the Reports Dictionaries is what likely has to be changed on the new server.

When ever you move a Dynamics Database or change the Domain context it will almost always be a security issue that stops a system from running.

Last night one of our GP consultants figured this out. It is a security issue only on these 2 workstations. GP could be run under Admin but not normal user login. txs mll
