How to properly structure products?

Posted on by 200

I have media products to sell and they come in the following variations...

  • Document A - English - Digital
  • Document A - French - Digital
  • Document A - English - Physical
  • Document A - French - Physical

What is the proper way to handle this? Would each point be a product or would I handle this with product properties?

Turns out they don't know the size of the document because they are constantly changing so i will just handle it on the order. I appreciate the help.

    Hi what,

my suggest is to add (by plugin) a specific product (Megabyte or Page) based on options found in the main product.

    Example:

Main Product 1: GB 5 --> after save create 1 gb product  with quantity 5
Main Product 1: PAGES 2 --> after save create 1 pageproduct  with quantity 2in order product

    Please let me know.

Thank you for the help! How do you go about implementing the 10% more expensive method? We are charging per megabyte  or per page.

    Notes:

    • 1 product "Document A"
    • 2 Product properties "Language (English,French,Both)" and "Format (Physical,Digital)"
    • 2 price list items with the following units 1 MB and 1 Page

    Hi whatup,

it depends from price calculation behaviour:

    • if language and/or type (digital/physical) influence the price you need to keep separated products
    • if they are only options you could treat them as attributes (example: i buy a Document A, i can select language and type with no price change OR with fixed price change like "phisical product are 10% more expensive")

    Hope it helps!
