Completed Task activities automatically created as new open Task activity

Hi all ,

We are experiencing few issues with Task activity. Completed Task activities automatically created as new Tasks with original content and details.

Recently a user has experienced this issue approx. 1400 Tasks created for this user(with their name) in three minutes all these original Tasks are marked as completed.

How to diagnose/troubleshoot this issue?

We looked all our Plugins and Workflows couldn't find anything this is causing issue 

MS CRM Dynamics 2016 on premise

    Are you using the CRM Outlook client or Server-Side Sync to sync tasks for this user ? I could imagine that, if something went wrong with the sync, it might cause this behaviour.

    Currently for the users that are seeing the duplicated Task's they have been configured in CRM to use the Outlook CRM Plugin. We identified that the duplicate tasks were re-created on the same day/time that we re-configured the CRM Plugin link back to CRM (New Outlook Mail Profile).

    Using what I think your theory is below: Would it have been that at the time of the Re-linking of the Outlook Plugin to CRM, that the Plugin has seen all the Task's inside Outlook and thrown them back into CRM as new activities?

    You are right, this explains us why this is intermittent issue and also make us to review the mailbox and sync
