Fixed Assets import

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello everyone!

I just imported fixed assets into GP, and finally got the message which says import complete.  Now I can't find what I imported to check them.  What step am I missing?

Also, I figured out why I was having issues with some of the assets which were acquired before we even had GP.  The acquisition date isn't in our system.  How have others handled this issue as it won't accept the actual acquisition date?

We are on GP2013.

Thanks.

Thank you!  I figured out the problem.  I had the currency in the macro and didn't need it.  I got general to import and the book bombed, but I think I know why.  Thank you so much for all your help!

    Lisa -

When planning to run and troubleshooting macros, it is often instructive to try hand-entering one or two records, so you can see what if anything goes wrong during the process. Try entering one of your assets by hand, to see if there is an error message encountered in the acquisition date field - this would be helpful.

I've narrowed it down.  I run the macro and get the following message:  "field on window is inactive or disabled Line #25".  When I open the Macro, Line #25 is the acquisition date.  I checked the calendar and I did set it up and the related quarters going back to 1999, which is the oldest acquisition date I'm trying to import.  I'm so close!  Yet so very far...

I looked in both book and general.  I also stripped out the old data because I kept getting error messages, which went away when I used more current data.  I thought I used the macro through the Fixed Asset Import Export tab.  I'll have to do more digging on the macro.  I selected for it to run after import and it said it was complete.

    thanks Harry!

    Lisa -

I typically use Macros to import Fixed Assets, and not the import utility, which comes with Dynamics GP. So, I am at a loss on why you can't see what you imported. It would stand to reason, the import utility would fail, if a number of exceptions were noted. Perhaps it failed completely, because of the problem with the historical part of the calendar.

Are you looking at the General or Book level for your imported data?

Thanks Harry.  I did set up the calendar, but I didn't do it going back to 1999.  Will that solve the problem of it not importing the older items?  And any idea why I can't see what I did import?

    Thank you!

    Lisa,

Take a look at this post on configuring fixed assets. This is a checklist for setting up Fixed Assets in Dynamics GP. You likely missed the Setup Fixed Asset Calendar step.
