Problems getting e-mailing of Word docs working for EFT remittance in GP 2010.

Posted on by 5

Hi all,

We're running GP2010 SP2 and we're having trouble getting the ability to generate and edit Word documents setup.

What is working, if we choose to send a basic HTML file rather then a word doc, it works fine. The recipient gets an email saying we are depositing their money with a total of X, invoice#, etc...

The problem when when we try to use Word documents instead. I have installed the Word template Add-in. I do the following:

Go to Reports/Template Maintenace
For report name, choose "Payables EFT Maintenance"
I then hit new (have no templates there now)
Choose Blank template and give it a name, say Test123
Hit Create
I then select Test123, and click Modify
I then get an error: File Not Found: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Test123.docx
I check in that folder, and there is indeed no file with that name, or a Test123.xml file

We've been stuck here for a while. Our consultants don't know whats going on. At first they thought it was a Citrix issue because we use redirected profiles, but I've installed GP on a standalone Win7 box and got the same result.

One thing I tried, was having another organization send me one of their template.docx files. I renamed it to Test123.docx, and put it in that Temp folder. I was then able to click Modify in GP and that file they sent opened. I thought this was a workaround, I could edit that to match what we wanted. However even if I save that file to a shared location (from within word), since the Temp folder is not going to work, and then try to reopen it, it  still tries the original Temp location to open it. So I then tried to "add" the file to the template from the shared location (and also just from a local folder) but it says "The template you have selected cannot be added to this report". I have a feeling that might be because of some name mismatch in the XML maybe?

Any thoughts on what we're missing? When GP2010 is first installed, are there any modules/features that need to be installed along with it in order for this to work, other then the Word-add-in?

Any help would be appreciated. Our partners don't seem to know why this isn't working, and this is not my normal area of expertise (network admin).

Thanks.
