Batch Posting Slow

Posted on by 70

Hi,

We are experiencing the following issue in Great Plains 10.0

When we try to post moltiple Sales batches, the first batch posts fine but any subsequent batches takes forever to post..few hours. If we log out of Great Plains after the first batch is posted and log back in, the second batch posts fine but then the 3rd batch takes forever. Has anybody else seen this behaviour?

3 gigs on a server is short.  SQL consumes memory as it works.  It does not release it but re-uses it.  My thought is something is not being allowed to finish before the second batch is manually started since automatically sequencing through series post is working correctly.  Try waiting a few minutes after the first batch "completes" posting before starting the second one.

Series post has no problems with multiple batches being posted. Cash receipts, however, are always posted one batch at a time.

The server has 55% disk space free and 3GB of RAM. My workstation is Vista, with 4GB of RAM

SOP has a number of tables to update....

If you post using Series Post and select 2 batches, does the second batch appear to slow down?

On the server, how much disk space is free?  Do you have more than 20% of the drive free?

How much memory (RAM) is available on the workstation where posting is being performed?  Can you try the posting on a different machine with more memory?  I usually recomment 2gigs of RAM as a minimum.  With Vista, more may be required.

I am posting one cash receipts batch at a time. Even after deleting the pjournal, I am still experienceing slow posting of cash receipts. Other series seem to post much faster.

I never saw an answer to the question of how you were posting.  Are you posting a single batch, waiting until it appears finished, and then starting another?  Or are you using Series Posting and selecting multiple batches.

There are several tasks that must complete, including printing tasks before the next posting should start.  This can be seen through the Process Monitor.  When posting is started, a series of tasks is loaded and executed.  If you start a second posting before the first is completed.......

So how are you posting multiple batches?  And have you tried Series Posting?

If you find that clearing the PJOURNAL table fixes the problem, you may want to enable the SQL job that automatically clears it. If your PJOURNAL table has records it is most likely disabled. Here is the direct link to it for your convenience:

Following the KB article you posted, I rant the query for pjournal and it returned 116 rows, ,most from 2002! Anyway, I deleted the pjournal table tonight and will see tomorrow if this solved the problem. Thanks for your help and sorry I am so late following up.

    Re: Batch Posting Slow

When we have slow batch posting, I have, after regular business hours, shut down (not just restart) the SQL server where GP resides and bring it up again. Unsure as to why, but it is a simple solution. I usually will install any Microsoft SQL updates as well to kill two birds with one stone.

    Re: Batch Posting Slow

Haven't seen this behaviour before. Are you using the series post window? ie ticking a number of batches and then posting them all together?

Or are you calling up a batch in the batch entry window, posting it, and then calling up another batch and posting that one? Do the audit reports for the first bach print correctly?

Does the second batch post eventually, or are you deliberately crashing out before it completes? If crashing out, has there ever been consequences - ie the second batch held in posting or something like that.

I'm asking, because I'm wondering if it is a reporting issue, and maybe the second batch doesn't actually start to post.

     The following techknowledge might help:
