FRx-MR migration

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

Currently, our FRx has five different companies with five different spec sets. Is it possible to migrate the five different spec sets to MR 2012 CU12 using the migration wizard? Or will I need to combine the five FRx spec sets into one spec set?

    Hi Susan,

you appended a comment to a thread that has nothing to do with the original posting (which is about migrating FRx report sets to MR 2012).. you would be better to post this question under a new thread..

As this is already over 3 months old, I don't know if it's still relevant..

    Have a great day.

Updating the Report Writer Reports into Word Templates for emailing.  This solution was used and worked fine in Report Writer, but the calculated fields do not seem to work in Word Templates.  Should they?

Please note I have generated my template from my modified report and I have the fields in my word template, but only the fist line prints about 40 characters.  The other lines created are blank.

Has anyone been able to create the calculated fields and then use them in Word Templates?

    Thank you,

    Susan

    RE: FRx-MR migration

Jay, one of the challenges with the MR migration is that when you run the migration the process destroys the content of the MR side - each time.

As I recall you can migrate unlimited company details, but you an only migrate really one spec-set at a time.

We had a similar problem, two companies, two spec sets, but only one MR.

So, we migrated one - completed successful testing.

Then in MR we exported the data to a 'backup'

Then we did the second company migration and it was completed sucessfully.

At that point, we imported the first company information back into MR - set up a FOLDER for the reports to keep them separate and we were off and running.

We applied the required security to keep the two databases separate as needed and have not had any issues since.

    Hope this helps.

    RE: FRx-MR migration

    Hi Jay,

What do you mean under 'five different spec sets' ? are you talking about row and column definitions ? If so, yes I think that the FRx migration utility to MR2012 will take this into consideration... We migrated our FRx config about 3 years ago with pretty good success to MR. However, most of the time you'll have to revise your definitions by going thru each report and check the errors that are showing up in the column / row definitions.

The migrated reports in MR that will have errors to be checked for validation will have a red icon with exclamation mark next to the name. Still better than nothing and having to re-create all the reports from hand.

However, Microsoft also provides a good chunk of report samples to cover the most basic needs in MR 2012 when you start from scratch without converting from FRx (though you can add those too, even after the migration, just to get an idea about the formats).
