Hello I am starting out as a student and would like to find out, what modules I should take for finance and operations for consulting purposes(as in to work as a consultant)?

I would start with Finance, Trade and Logistics, Warehouse management, Transportation management but it all depends on your interest.

Hi Llekhuleni,

First, congratulations on finding the direction and goal of your career efforts. For how to study D365FO, forum members have given answers.

What i want to say is each region has the characteristics of each region. Some places have more finances. Some places supply chains are a little more. Some places are manufacturing. There is not much improvement in reading because you have no specific goals. Need to go to the actual field work, accumulate most of the experience, in order to grow quickly. Therefore, I recommend that you join a work in an implementation company, which is the fastest way to learn.

Hello thank you for you reply, so I want to ask there is no actual structure I can take modules as I see fit? Sorry I am new to this and I am used to it and the information online is very overwhelming.

If you have financial foundation, you can start from finance, if not, SCM will be more suitable for you.

Hi Llekhuleni,

Agree with you that information that's available is overwhelming. In order to take out the complexity, as others have mentioned pick a workstream that you most comfortable with and you see demand in jobs based on where you live. Say you decide to go with finance. See if there are companies that will take you in as intern and get you going. In parallel, suggest that you leverage docs website and read through it.. It's going to take lot of time, you won't understand lot of concepts and that's ok. I would say that even experts doesn't know everything.. that concept of know all doesn't exist. If there is training available where you live, try to take that.. it will get your basics cleared. The best way to learn is to do it in system and then keep repeating it. Reason to work as against self-learning is that your scope in work is much limited to the project. you start to get good understanding and have other resources on project that can help guide you. This is not to discourage you, the best way i learn is through reading and practice. You also need to practice patience while you learn, it take quiet a bit of time to understand and start using the system yourself before you can start training others.

Ok thank you very much your reply has made it more clearer for me, I have also downloaded because I think I would understand it better doing it practically, I downloaded an app on my ipad and it doesn't seem to function properly though.
