OLE Notes Migration after Upgrade

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Upgraded from GP2013 R2 to GP 2018 via GP 2016. Didn't upgrade the OLE Notes prior to going to GP 2018. :-(  I still have my old GP2013R2 environment as we migrated servers as well.  Can I extract the OLE Notes from the old GP 2013 environment, convert back into the old GP 2013 environment then move the table data to my new GP 2018 Environment? Or better yet convert right into the GP 2018 environment.  If so does anyone know the tables to look at? I have the GP2013 Migration Utility, I'm copying our ~11k of ole objects to a local drive where GP 2013 is installed.  Will perform the extract and then see how I can migrate the data.  Any advice would be helpful. . .   Thanks!

RE: OLE Notes Migration after Upgrade

Ok found list of tables here. Was able to run the Migration Utility on the old database (GP2013 using one of my old laptops). It extracted about 1/4 of the documents. Errors were due to linked objects and the path being broken (you would expect paths to change over 12 years and 2 server upgrades) Anyway I was able to see the additions to the tables. The logs do a good job of describing what and why the extraction failed. (logs are in the install directory of the tool in the LogFiles folder)  Next step would be to plan table migration of the data elements into the new database (GP2018).  However, since these will now become BLOBs in the database, I really don't want to do this. . . . Thinking we will add this as part of our Enterprise Document Management solution and stop using the built in attachment function altogether.  Good thing is that all of the original documents are in a file share on the file server.  But it seems possible to go after the attachments after a conversion to a later version of GP if you still have a old version of the DB and the matching software.
