After upgrading to SL 2015, CU2 we found that the FED9 deduction was calculating incorrectly. Seems like SL made a change in SL 2015, CU2 vs. how this was handled in SL 2011. We fixed the existing deductions for all employees and modified the FED9 settings to remove exemptions. We calculated payroll and found a FED9 deduction for several employees. None of them earn more then $200,000. We made FED9 exempt to fix the current payroll calculation but am trying to determine the proper setup for FED9 so it only calculates for employees who have more than $200,000 in earnings...in our case there are none.
Can you provide detail instructions on the proper FED9 setup for SL 2015 CU2 so we can set it up and only calculate when earnings exceed $200,000.
Thanks.
Norman Luke

Thanks for the confirmation. I saw the same as well. We plan to install on our test system and confirm.
Does not appear that this issue has been resolved in SL 2018 CU5 or included with the 2020 YE Updates (at least I don't see it being specifically called out in the documentation). Looking for confirmation as I start to evaluate applying these updates for clients.
Totally agree, Mark. FED9 has been an issue for most of my long time clients since it was introduced. This particular issue with two check sequences is the last to be addressed. I worked with Microsoft support early last year and a hot fix was requested then. I reopened the case today. If I get any feedback I'll let you know.
Ugh, I am upgrading the client that reported this issue to SL 2018 CU4 this weekend, certainly would hope this would have been corrected by now. Also would like an update on when it will be resolved.
I reported this issue last year for a client on SL 2015 CU2 and we are now upgrading them to SL 2018 CU4. In testing this issue still exists, unfortunately. My client is going to be very disappointed as am I. This client issues two checks for Salaried and Commissioned employees every payroll.
Any chance it will be addressed in the 2020 YE Update, Carolyn?
Dear Mark,
Thank you for the update!

Yup, I opened a support case on this issue and it is confirmed. Working on correcting the payroll numbers by recording negative Earnings Subject to Deduction as well as negative Deduction to get the $$ back to the employee and set all back to zero YTD. No reported timeline on when defect will be corrected, not even sure if 2015 CU2 fixes will be created.
Dear Mark,
I was informed today that there is a bug in 2018 cu3 that specifically deals with your issue Bug 40570- Additional Medicare is calculated if there are mulitple check sequences. This looks like it also occurs in your version as well.

Hello Mark,
Box 6 is medicare.
Box 6a is additional medicare.
So the workaround is to set the deduction up as additional medicare and print the 941 report. Then change it to report as a medicare deduction (instead of additional medicare) and print the report again.
The version is still supported, and this is a bug, so if you need to create a support case for additional clarification.
Best Regards,
Jana MacDonald
