How do you export changes you made in the App Designer on a Dev site to a Prod site?

Posted on by 215

I made some changes to my Dev Site Map using the App Designer, and since then have uploaded a solution from Dev to Prod. However the changes I made to the Site Map haven't been reflected in my Prod site. Is there a way to export/import like you do with Solutions, or is it a case of just having to make the same changes in the Prod App Designer? The reason I ask was because I was told it was bad practice to make any changes directly in Prod so I'd like to avoid it if possible.

I also find it easier to make Views in the App Designer rather than through the solution so if there was a way to export from there, it would be a lot easier.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks, I didn't realise you actually needed to add the app itself to the Solution but just found how to do that so thanks for your help!

    Hiya,

Thanks for this. I have now updated the Site Map but it still hasn't worked completely. For example, I created a Dashboard area in the Site Map and then selected the default Dashboard to be shown and uploaded it in the same solution, but that Dashboard isn't showing up even as one of the System View options, let alone being the default!

As for exporting from the App Designer - I didn't realise you had to actually have the 'app' in the solution itself. I've added it now so will see how it goes. Thanks for your help.

    Hi

As suggested by Stefan, make sure your solution has the site map of the App in the Client Extensions area.

When an App is added to a solution, CRM would have prompted the user to add the sitemap as well as shown below

If the user who added the App to the solution selected no, the Site map would not have been added to the solution, hence your changes are not coming across to prod.

You can always add sitemap to the solution as shown below

Once the sitemap is added, export and import the solution onto prod and you should have your changes on prod.

What do you mean by exporting from the App Designer sorry? do you mean exporting the solution from App Designer screen?

Like you said you have uploaded a solution from Dev to Prod. This solution with the App should also include the Client Extensions component for your custom navigation. Select Add Required Component to add it to the solution. Export and import into Prod.

If I go to advanced settings>customizations>customize the system on both my Dev and Live site, I can see several Client Extensions. I'm not sure what you mean about having it in the Solution though?

    Hi Charlotte,

Could you check if the Client Extensions component is included in the (App) solution?
