Hello, everyone.

I am new to Dynamics 365. I've been at my company for over 12 years as a product manager/developer of consumer goods. My company has put a lot of faith into me because of how well I picked up Excel, FileMaker (running macros and writing scripts) but I feel out of water with my new tasks. I would call myself a Super User at best in those other programs, but I've been asked to build reports in this new system and the database/data sets are confusing to me. My main issue is that I want to be able to put in a formula or design a query to link information from multiple tables, but I can't even tell what the tables are called sometimes. I'm sure that I will be hopping over here a lot for advice, but if there are particular forums where I can start to seek answers, I would appreciate the guidance/suggestions. Thank you.

Hi Megan,

If you want to know some table name from a form, you can right-click a column header and click the form information. And you can get some details about the form such as data source.

do you know coding? if yes then can easily use application explorer in Visual Studio and also other related object tools

one quick way to learn table design is to look in to data entities as they combine lot of normalized sources into a single denormalized updatable view

Have you been assigned a system administrator role in D365?

If yes, you can go to Data management where you can see the table names available within different modules.

1. Navigate to Data management workspace > Click on Data entities tile or

2. Navigate to System administration module > Data management > Data Entities tile

You can see all the tables within the data entities form that are available in different modules. To save time you can select the entities, export them in Excel using the excel add-in data connector available on the same form.

eoi-Megan, I can't know which forum is appropriate until you tell us which product you're talking about.

Is it Dynamics 365 Business Central? Dynamics 365 Finance? Or something else?
