Since last week, whenever we add a note to TimeLine in the Lead/Opportunity page the Timeline reports and "Unrecognized Error" and the Timeline elements don't load on the screen. It seems to be the process of adding a Note or Activity in the TimeLine that causes the 'error'.
Is there a fix for this?

This is an Known issue which is in Timeline in UCI, and MS is working on the fix now, also, MS communication team been engaged to send out notification for customers who are on Train 11.1. We expect users can see the following report in their O365 Admin Center. CR196577
If you want to solve this issue temporarily, you can raise ticket to support team, and ask them to run mitigation script
