Let's say you disconnect your current workstations from your domain. MR continues to run on the domain controller. Is it possible to get MR to prompt for the Windows credentials so reports can continue to run? We have a client looking to use JumpCloud and JumpCloud does not want the workstations in the domain.
So if if when clicking on designer and getting prompted for domain credentials this will not work? I had never heard of JumpCloud until today. It seems like everyday there is some new gizmo that is supposed to make all our lives better. How about leaving things alone so we can all get some work done?
An MR client cannot function without being connected to the domain. When you log into MR, it takes your domain credentials that you are logged in with and passes that through to the MR services which then authenticates you and allows access to the program. Everything in the program is secure and built around this authentication so there is no way around it. The MR code makes direct calls to active directory to accomplish this. Client machines would either need to be directly connected to the domain or use a VPN. In either scenario, the users would need to log into the computer with domain credentials. If that isn't possible, an alternative approach would be to set up a server that users could remote desktop into using domain credentials. They would run MR Report Designer and run reports from that remote server.
