How do I change/overwrite the Danish OIOUBL extension (or any other extension, I haven't made myself)?

I'm working on Business Central version 13.11 (13.0.35820.0) on-premise. Most of the code is C/SIDE but some is in extensions.

I need to make some changes to the Danish OIOUBL extension that exports an XML file.

I have the code from Microsoft, but when I try to build a package i Visual Studio Code, I get a lot of errors (fields missing etc.).

Shouldn't it be easy to add one message in the code and then build a package? I have tried with all of Microsoft Denmarks extensions inside my project, but that just gave me more errors.

So far I only need to change an if-sentence in one codeunit.

Until now, I have tried this:

I have made a Visual Studio Code project where I have made an extension to a random page. When I press F5 i VS Code, it build the package and install it. (BC is not set up to open in a web browser, but my extension is working fine, when I open BC using the client.)

Then I copied the one codeunit (13653), I need to change, into my project in VS Code. It didn't have the new fields, Microsoft Denmark has added in some table extensions. Then I tried to add some or all AL-code from the OIOUBL-zip file into my project, but I get all kind of errors.

I must be doing it wrong...

These works like any other extensions. There are more constraints than CSIDE

    1. You must use the extension contained in the extensions folder in the product DVD

    2. You must download symbols from your environment

    3. You must bump the version field in app.json --> from now on this becomes YOUR OWN custom extension and you have to maintain this

    4. Build the extension

    5. Publish the extension using power shell. NOTE: you MUST use a partner license to perform this task

    6. Synchronize the extension with PS

    7. Perform Data Upgrade through PS (this will also install the new extension

If you are a customer, I would strongly recommend to be in touch with your reseller or CSP partner to perform this take.

Please be also aware that version 13.x is out of support since April 2020 and it is strongly recommended to perform a full upgrade of both application and platform to 14.x asap.

    Hi Duilio,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have done this:

    - Copy folder named "FIK.Source" from the extensions folder.

    - Add the file launch.json (copied from a normal homemade extension, I know works in this Business Central environment.)

    - Download symbols.

    - Change version number in the app.json file. (I guess it isn't important for this test which number I increase.)

When I then press F5, I get this error in the app.json file: "error AL0124: The property 'compatibilityId' cannot be used in this context. Error: The package could not be created."

    So I remove ' "compatibilityId":  "1.0.0.0", ' from Microsofts app.json file.

When I then press F5, I get 24 errors. Some of them are here:

c:\Users\admms\Desktop\MHS\AL\FIK.Source\source\page\Pag50-Ext13615.PurchaseOrder.al(7,19): error AS0062: Field 'Giro Acc. No.' must have a value for the ApplicationArea property so that they are visible to users.

c:\Users\admms\Desktop\MHS\AL\FIK.Source\source\Tables\TAB122-Ext13617PurchInvHeader.al(5,22): error AS0016: Field with name 'GiroAccNo' must use the DataClassification property and its value should be different from ToBeClassified.

c:\Users\admms\Desktop\MHS\AL\FIK.Source\AppSourceCop.json(1,1): error AS0003: The version '1.0.29762.0' of the extension with publisher 'Microsoft' and name 'Payment and Reconciliation Formats (DK)' could not be found in the package cache folder. If you do not want to validate breaking changes, remove the property 'version' from the AppSourceCop.json.

c:\Users\admms\Desktop\MHS\AL\FIK.Source\AppSourceCop.json(1,1): error AS0054: The AppSourceCop configuration must specify one of the following properties: 'mandatorySuffix', 'mandatoryPrefix', or 'mandatoryAffixes'

Furthermore it won't accept the value "Internal" in "target" in app.json. It says, it must be set to "Cloud" or "Extension". But Microsoft has set it to "Internal", so that must be the correct value.

    I really don't understand this.

In my first answer at point 1. I was referring to the source contained in DVD but I can see that you are deviating from this.

I would ask your CSP Partner or Reseller to guide you through this path.

It is not a simple task as it was in the past with C/AL, unfortunately.

    Hi Duilio,

    OK. I'll contact them.

    Excellent.

    One last comment about this.

If you are contacting your CSP Partner / Reseller, remember the following

    1. Version 13.x is out of support since April 2020 and the application and platform needs to be upgraded to the latest 14.x CU

    2. Check the latest 14.x CU if what you need to achieve or to resolve is already there or if you have an extension-wise way to have this implemented instead (aka subscribing to existing events)

Basically, standard extensions should not be customized but extended (as much as you could, of course)

Now I know how to do this. Feel free to leave a comment here, if you want me to explain it.
