Customer name and/of vendor name in ledger entries

We hear from different customers the question if it is possible to mention the customer name and/of vendor name in the item ledger entries. When the source of the item ledger entry is PURCHASE, then they want to want to see by which vendor the purchase order was ordered.

Also they want to see the customer name when a item ledger entry has the source SALES.

It is now possible to see the customer number and/of Vendor number in the page value entries. But the number does not say allot.

There are two ways you can do this:

    1) You can create a new variable, put the logic to retrieve the customer / vendor name on trigger OnAfterGetRecord, and show that variable in the page. This will reduce the performance because the variable needs to be retrieved every time you open the page.

    2) Create a new field in the table, and add a logic to insert customer and vendor name into one of the events. Better performance, but harder to code.

    Both are doable.

The recommended way to get this changed / added in BC is to create a suggestion in “ideas”, our current product suggestion system, and collect votes for your suggestion from other partners. The pro-argument for using ideas is that we consider the votes an idea gets.

As soon as a suggestion gets a certain number of votes it will be promoted automatically and then discussed with more partners on yammer.
