Hi,
I am involved in the implementation f a combined solution of Dynamics AX and Dynamics RMS. RMS will be implemented at 8 customer centres. AX as well as RMS HQ manager will be implemented at the head office. We recently discovered thaty the csutomer has an issue with the presence of servers on-site at the customer centres. Some of these centres are very small (1-3 POS clients) and do not have the facilities (secured space, backup etc.) to host a server at these locations. Combining the server with 1 POS-client is also not desirable for the customer since they do consider this to be a ' server' and company policy forbids the existence of servers at customer centres.
The current system (which will be replaced by RMS) has a direct online connection per client to a central server at the head office. The communication between the customer centres and the head office is handled by leased lines (or sometimes ADSL) with a bandwith between 128KB and 2x2 MB. The customer request that RMS is implemented in a simlar fashion. This would mean: 1 or more store manager located at a central datacentre and several POS-clients that are conneced remotely.
I have the followig questions:
-
Is there anybody with experience with such a setup for other customers?
- Are there convincing arguments against such a setup?
- What is the mimium required bandwith for remote communication between the POS client and the Store Manager?
- Are there any functional or technical issues that will arise when using a leased line between the POS and store manager (most connections have back up lines)?
Thank you,
Eric Pantekoek
