Is it possible to Purge and archive data in D365 for Finance and Operation?

Hi all,

Is it possible to purge and archive data in D365 for Finance and Operations?

There seems to be a app for other D365 solutions but not for Finance and Operation as per this link https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/dynamics-365/microsoft_labs.dataarchival?tab=Overview

There also seems to be a tool also for AX 2012 (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/lifecycle-services/ax-2012/work-with-purge-objects-archive-objects) but does not seem to be compatible with D365 Finance and Operation.

Did anyone ever cater for this requirement? Is it something handled by Azure Services? In that case how can it be handled in on-premise installation?

Thanks and Regards,

Michael

    Hi Michael,

IDMF has not been depreciated according to the next page. docs.microsoft.com/.../ax-2012-features-not-implemented-but-not-deprecated

It has not been made compatible with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. So. likely, this feature will be added in future, but Microsoft may change its strategy and priorities.

    Hi André ,

    Thank you for your reply.

But as per today do you know of any replacement of this tool that can be used in D365 current version?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Michael

There is no replacement tool, but there are some cleanup jobs in the system that can be used to remove unnecessary log / history data.

And you can of course create more jobs by yourself.

But for actual archive&purge use case there are no solutions at the moment.

    Hi Michael,

I do fully agree with the latest comments from Nikolaos here.

Is there any update about it in the recent past years regarding data archiving? Do we now have such feature?

Yes, it is part of the 2023 Release wave 1.

I will mention it very briefly in my webinar "The 7 Key New Features Coming In 2023 Release Wave 1 in Dynamics 365 Finance" - actually tomorrow (and then later available as a recording).
