What I want to do is buy a big server and in it install a virtual server with sql services and databases and in another virtual server run Dynamics SL application. Would it Work?

Microsoft support Virtualization as long as it is on a supported Hyper Visor, i.e. VMWare or Windows Server Hyper-V. We have had no issues at all, a lot of our servers have been virtualized by now.
What Version of SL are you guys on? I would reccomend going to Version 7.0 FP1 or if you are enhanced Dynamics SL 2011 (8.0)

We have the same type of question!! We currently are on physical servers and next Friday are planning to move our SL database and SL application servers to virtual servers. We are confident it will work (we think). We aren't 100% sure that MS supports it?? I hope you find your answer!
