Report for Assemblies

ReportReport

Hello there,

A client of ours is moving to D365 business edition at the end of the year. They currently have a report called "Assembly Tickets." This is a just a single sheet of paper showing the part number, quantity, due date, and transaction date. There is one assembly ticket per order. This assembly ticket gets passed to the warehouse in order to properly compile and ship the order.

Is there a report in D365 that is close to this? I have found that the Sales Shipment report is closest. Are there any other reports that might fulfill these needs? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi IU_Hoosier,

From my testing scenarios, while we have Assembly BOMs, there is currently no workable way to do the actual assembly. Assembly Orders for ATS (Assemble to Stock) are not available, even in Suite mode, and on Sales Orders (for ATO / Assemble to Order), we are missing key fields like Qty. to Assemble to Order, or even a function to start the assembly process.

WHEN this functionality is added, we should have an Assembly Order page that we can go to directly or through a Sales Order (as we have in NAV), and from here you will have the ability to print a report that's the equivalent of a Pick Ticket for Assembly. This should satisfy the requirement (as it does in NAV).

But, at this point, we're talking about "futures" and the report you ask about is not available today (since the underlying functionality itself is not fully available in the product today).

I hope this helps. If my response has answered your question, please verify by clicking Yes next to "Did this answer your question?"

Thanks for the quick reply, AJ.

So, the fact that we can assign Items as an Assembly means nothing right now? Am I able to sell items that are an assembly and have the the inventory of the components be decreased? Is there an ETA on when the functionality will be fully added?

I will have to defer to Chris Bulson, Jennifer Reinhardt, or another Microsoft support team member to respond to the part about availability.

To your first question, I specifically ran a test scenario just before answering your question, on the off-chance that I'd either missed something before, or that the issues I had experienced before were resolved. I created an Assembly BOM from an Item Card, ensured we had sufficient quantity of Raw Materials to cover the creation of 1 PC of the assembled Item, then used it on the Sales Order. I did not see any Qty to Assemble to Order or functions to force an Assembly Order, so I still proceeded with shipping and invoicing the Sales Order. When I went back to the assembled Item card and looked at ledger entries, I saw that I had a -1 (negative 1) qty of this. And my raw materials' quantity remained unchanged as well.

I suspect the only way to do it is to correct quantity on hand from Item Card (use the Adjust Inventory function in the ribbon) or use the Item Journal... and either defeat the purpose of having an Assembly BOM in the first place. I have to believe this is short-term issue and it will be remedied in an upcoming release.

Thanks AJ! Is there a way I can contact them directly or have them respond in this thread with their answer?

    Hi UI_Hoosier,

This prior forum post mentions when we can expect to see the expanded Assembly functionality: community.dynamics.com/.../253155. Since we are getting close to the release of this functionality, there is some information on it in the Dynamics 365 Roadmap: https://roadmap.dynamics.com/#edition=1#application=a56e2c12-2a92-e611-80dc-c4346bac0910#status=c3ba828c-ae97-e611-80df-c4346baceb68.
