I'm a Power Platform / D365 CE developer with 5 years of experience in model-driven apps, plugins, Power Automate, and integrations. I'm now moving into building agentic AI solutions on top of D365 CE and Dataverse, and I'd like to learn from people who have actually built them.
A note on what I'm looking for: I've already seen the intro demo videos and generic AI-generated overviews. What I'm missing is practical, written material from people who have implemented this: blog posts, GitHub repos, sample solutions, and hands-on walkthroughs.
1. Starting point
Are there step-by-step blogs or sample solutions that build an agent on CE data (Cases, Leads, Opportunities, Accounts) from scratch, beyond a basic Q&A bot?
How do you decide between out-of-the-box Copilot capabilities and a custom agent in Copilot Studio?
2. Agent design (the agentic part)
How do you design agents that plan, use tools, and take actions (updating records, creating tasks, sending emails), rather than just answer questions?
What tools do you give them (Dataverse actions, agent flows, custom APIs, connectors, MCP), and how do you write instructions and tool descriptions so the agent picks the right one?
How do you handle multi-step reasoning, human approval steps, and agents that call other agents?
3. Security
How do you make sure an agent respects the calling user's Dataverse security roles, and avoid over-privileged connections or service accounts?
4. Autonomous agents in practice
Which real scenarios are working (case triage, lead qualification, email drafting), and what has gone wrong with triggers, loops, or unintended actions?
5. ALM and operations
How do you move agents through DEV, TEST, and PROD using solutions and pipelines, test non-deterministic behavior, monitor runs, and control consumption costs?
What would help me most:
Blog posts or GitHub repos showing agents built on CE or Dataverse
Community contributors who write regularly about agentic patterns in Power Platform
Lessons from production projects, especially what you'd do differently
Thanks in advance, and I'd be glad to share what I learn back with the community.
