FA - this is not a valid asset for the user

Posted on by 10

Hey All,

So, this is a first for me and I tried to search the subject line but to no avail.  A user in our system entered in an asset wrong and then made a transfer to the correct entity/department (we have MEM).  After that was done they realized they entered in the wrong dates for the asset as well.  However, when they tried to go back into the asset they were unable to, as well as myself, and received the below:

I also verified that this asset exists in FA00100, FA00200, and FA00400.

All our users have access to all MEM Entities thinking it might have been something to do with those settings. I am not sure if this asset is just locked up in SQL by a user or if there is something else in SQL that I need to clear out to release this asset.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hey Frank,

    Thank you so much.

That was the issue and I should have realized to go there to verify that they had an entity applied to that asset.  I believe the issue was when they tried to transfer the asset from one entity to another and possibly did something wrong during that process.

    Thank you so much again!!!!

Try running the 'Assign Entity' utility, by selecting the 'FA' module, and then click the 'Enable Suggested Entity' checkbox.  If that asset shows up and it has the correct entity, select it & click Process.  If it shows up but doesn't have the correct entity or does not have an entity listed, enter the Entity in the box at the top, then select the entity (click on it), and the correct entity should populate on that row.  Once it is populated with the correct entity, select it & click Process.

    Hey Jeff,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I am not sure what you mean by GP Folder/default code.

However, I do not see any users locked in SQL for any FA table.  It is odd that it is only this particular asset which will not allow me to access it in any window (general, book, account, retirement, delete).  It will consistently say "this is not a valid asset for user".

    Hi Andrew,

Yes, if the asset exists in FA00100 you should be able to pull it up in the window without error.  If you have a Dynamics GP folder with default code only I would attempt to open it from that installation to better verify if the 3rd party code is the issue or not.  If still erring from default code, get all users out of the system before stop/starting the SQL Server instance and clearing all temp/cache/orphaned data from past processing (activity, SY00800, SY00801, dex_session, dex_lock) to see if it resolves.

    Best Regards,

    Jeff
