Qualify Leads related to a customer when the user is added as a contact

Posted on by

Hello

We have two avenues of business when dealing with customers one being prospective customers which we would like to use Leads for and another for actual customers validated via another system that then adds customers as Contacts using a message bus.

We would like to keep prospective customers as non contacts but when they do become a contact we need to keep all the activities from when they were a lead.

The problem is when a customer is added as a contact via the other system the marketing department never know and their related leads are never merged into the contact.

Is it possible that when a contact is created a workflow (Or something...) could run that qualifys all leads that match certain criteria on the new contact ie, Name, Email, DOB

Ive had a play with actions but theres always one part that you arent able to do

Thanks

Custom action - you have to develop it in code. Is that an option or are you looking for something out of the box(probably can't do then)

Ive looked at the custom action workflow, but you can't add a value to the lookup field to search for the existing leads

    Hi,

you can definitely create a plugin or a custom workflow activity to look for the existing leads whenever a contact is created and to "qualify" them:

     msdn.microsoft.com/.../microsoft.crm.sdk.messages.qualifyleadrequest.aspx

There are a few properties of that request you can use to specify if a new contact/account/opportunity should be created as a result.

I think you will have to set "existing contact" property of those leads before you qualify them to see lead activities under the contact, but you may need to test this a bit more.
