Microsoft Dynamics CRM (Archived)

Customer portal to apply for franchise, and upload documents

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

Thanks for taking time to look into my question.

We have subsisting Dynamics CRM online.

Our company needs to host a public customer portal.

Users who are fascinated with our products, they will send us request. We will send user credentials to users to authenticate into portal.

Once users authenticated in the customer portal, user can engender a Franchise request. All the details in Franchise request should be posted to CRM custom entity( Franchise Request).

And withal there should be a provision for the user to upload documents ( around 10 to 20) which should be affixed Franchise Request record in CRM.

Will Partner Portal accommodate above requisite? Do we have to buy license for Partner portal? and how about CALs?

Documents which uploaded in portal, how can we apportion in SharePoint and annexing to Franchise Request record.

Thanks in advance.

Both can be exposed. No limitation there.

    Thanks.

let me go though all the information.

Just expeditious question. Is it possible to expose custom entities or only OOB entities?

    Hi Shawn,

    Please see the following links.

    Activating/Provisioning Portal:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../provision-portal

Showing Entity Lists and Form inside Portal:

    nishantrana.me/.../using-entity-list-to-show-crm-data-in-portal-in-dynamics-365

    nishantrana.me/.../using-entity-form-to-show-crm-form-inside-portal-in-dynamics-365

There is a lot of content about having users enter information. Google Dynamics Portals Entity Views and Dynamics Portals Entity Forms, and you will see a lot of blogs showing you how to do that.

You can also check out docs.microsoft.com/.../portals for more information.

    Hope this helps.

What are the steps to activate portal from my current Dynamics 365.

You are mentioning both Customer Portal and Partner Portal, which are separate.

You can't really set two separate portals within a single CRM organization, but you can separate the permissions based on visitors/partners, so that partners (after being logged in) will have access to particular areas the customers do not...

Regarding documents, here is where the problem lies. Currently MS has a bug where uploading documents from the Portal to SharePoint does not work. I know they are working on it, but there is no timeframe.

You can use an Azure Blob as a document library in order to upload documents if that solves your problem.

    Hope this helps.
